Punjab crime: RTI activist and lawyer Simranjit Singh shot dead on Jalandhar-Ludhiana Highway
Punjab crime: In a shocking incident, RTI activist and lawyer Simranjit Singh was allegedly shot dead by unidentified assailants near Cheheru on the Jalandhar-Ludhiana highway on Saturday.
According to initial information, the attackers opened fire on Simranjit Singh near the highway stretch close to Cheheru village. Sources said the victim was directly targeted and sustained multiple bullet injuries.
The motive behind the murder is yet to be ascertained. Police teams have reportedly reached the spot and started an investigation into the incident. Efforts are underway to identify and trace the shooters involved in the killing.
Meanwhile, DIG, Jalandhar Range, Naveen Singla said they had received a call at Kapurthala control room with regard to the recovery of the dead body. When the team reached there a .32 bore pistol and a 12 bore rifle were recovered from the scene. Authorities have also collected CCTV footage from nearby areas as part of the probe.
A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the reason behind the crime.
