Amritsar, October 28: To mark Parkash Purb (birth anniversary) of fourth Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Ramdas Ji, a grand Nagar Kirtan (religious procession) was organised by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), with the support of religious organisations and the Sikh community, in Amritsar on Saturday.

The Nagar Kirtan commenced from Sri Akal Takht Sahib in the Golden Temple complex, Amritsar, where prayers were offered, and Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji was adorned with reverence. The Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Giani Raghbir Singh, led the procession.

Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji was carried in a beautifully decorated palanquin, leading the Nagar Kirtan, which was attended by thousands of devotees. The Sikh community chanted the divine name of 'Satnam Waheguru' with deep devotion.

In the grand Nagar Kirtan, not only did the Sikh community actively participated, but various Sikh organisations, members of the SGPC, and prominent leaders also joined in the religious procession. The roads were adorned with welcome gates representing different Sikh historical gurdwaras, showcasing the rich culture and heritage of the Sikh community.

The devotees extended a warm welcome to the participants throughout the procession. The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee ensured that langar (community kitchen) and water facilities were available along different stretches of the procession for the convenience of the attendees.

Giani Raghbir Singh, Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, expressed his heartfelt wishes to the Sangat (congregation) on the occasion of Parkash Purb of Sri Guru Ramdas Ji. He emphasised that "the life of Sri Guru Ramdas Ji guides humanity towards spirituality, and the city of Amritsar, where the Golden Temple stands, holds a unique position as the spiritual centre".

The Nagar Kirtan proceeded through various streets and concluded at the sacred Golden Temple. The Nagar Kirtan saw a massive turnout of devotees from across the country and the world.

On October 30, special prayers and ceremonies will be conducted at the Golden Temple and Sri Akal Takht Sahib, culminating with the lighting of beautiful oil lamps and fireworks in the evening.
