PTC Web Desk: Punjab and Chandigarh have started experiencing intense summer conditions, with the Meteorological Department forecasting a continuous heatwave for the next six days. The Meteorological Centre in Chandigarh has issued a yellow alert for five districts in Punjab, Fazilka, Faridkot, Muktsar, Bathinda and Mansa, warning residents about rising temperatures and hot weather conditions.

According to the weather department, dry weather is expected to continue across the region over the coming days, with little to no possibility of rainfall. Officials said daytime temperatures may gradually rise by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius during the next four days before stabilising.

Director of the Meteorological Centre Chandigarh, Surender Pal, said several areas in Punjab are likely to experience heatwave conditions as temperatures continue to climb.

The IMD has also indicated that the southwest monsoon is expected to reach Kerala around May 26 this year, although there may be a variation of four days. This means the monsoon could arrive anytime between May 22 and May 30.

Health experts have advised people to take precautions during the extreme heat. Dr. RS Bedi urged parents to ensure that children carry water bottles to school and stay hydrated throughout the day. He also advised schools to reduce outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours.

Special caution has been advised for elderly people, who are more vulnerable to heat-related illnesses. Residents have been asked to avoid stepping out during the afternoon unless necessary and to keep their homes as cool as possible.
