Jalandhar BSF camp blast case: Another accused arrested from Zirakpur, Punjab Police nab taxi driver

PTC Web Desk: In a major breakthrough in the blast case outside the Border Security Force (BSF) camp in Jalandhar, the Punjab Police have arrested another accused linked to the incident. The latest arrest was made from Zirakpur, where the police detained a taxi driver identified as Umardeen.

According to police officials, the arrested accused allegedly kept the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) used in the blast. Investigators revealed that Umardeen had been living in a village near Zirakpur for some time and was allegedly involved in the conspiracy behind the explosion.

Police officials said continuous interrogation of the accused is underway to uncover the larger conspiracy and identify other individuals connected to the case.

Earlier, the police had arrested the main accused, Anil, a resident of Uttar Pradesh.

The explosion took place on May 5 outside the BSF Punjab Frontier Headquarters in Jalandhar at around 8 pm. Officials stated that the IED blast occurred in a scooter parked near the headquarters, completely destroying the vehicle. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the incident.

Following the blast, police and security agencies cordoned off the area and launched an intensive investigation. The incident triggered panic in the locality as the impact of the explosion damaged a traffic signal pole and shattered windows of nearby shops.

A video of the blast also surfaced on social media, showing an unidentified man running for safety moments after the explosion.

The police said the scooter involved in the blast belonged to Gurpreet Singh, a regular parcel delivery driver in the area. Authorities clarified that Gurpreet Singh is cooperating with the investigation.

Security agencies continue to probe multiple angles, including the possibility of a larger terror conspiracy behind the attack near the highly sensitive BSF establishment.
