Hoshiarpur borewell tragedy: Four-year-old boy trapped in 70-foot pit rescued after 9 hours operation

PTC News Desk: A four-year-old boy who fell into a newly dug 70-foot borewell in Punjab's Hoshiarpur district was finally rescued on Saturday after nine hours of relief operation.

The incident occurred on Friday evening near Chakk Samana village on the Hoshiarpur-Dasuya road. Rescue teams pulled him out around 12.40 am and immediately shifted him to a hospital for medical examination and treatment.

The boy identified as Gurkaran Singh, son of Ravinder Singh and a resident of Chakk Samana village, was playing near his house when he accidentally slipped into the uncovered borewell pit. The child is believed to be trapped at a depth of nearly 70 feet.

Deputy Commandant NDRF Pankaj Sharma said that the child's condition was stable. He noted that the rescue operation was challenging because of the loose soil that kept collapsing. "Our rescuers put in a commendable effort throughout the entire rescue operation," he stated.

Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain said the administration swung into action immediately after receiving information about the incident around 4 pm.

She said the child had slipped into an open borewell adjoining the family's house.

Jain said more than 40 NDRF personnel participated in the rescue effort.
