PTC Web Desk:  A Punjab Police constable was swept away by the strong current of water at Lohand Khad near Kiratpur Sahib on Wednesday, marking the second such incident at the spot in two days.

The missing policeman has been identified as Salman Khan, alias Ladi, who was posted at Division No. 7 police station in Ludhiana. According to family members, he had travelled with his wife, sister, niece and brother-in-law to pay obeisance at the shrines of Mata Naina Devi and Anandpur Sahib.

While returning from the pilgrimage, the family stopped at Lohand Khad near Kiratpur Sahib. During a bath in the stream, Salman’s brother-in-law, Puneet, reportedly lost balance and began drowning. Salman immediately jumped in to rescue him.

Although Puneet was successfully pulled to safety, Salman was caught in the strong water current and was swept away. The incident triggered panic among family members, who alerted the authorities.

A team from the Kiratpur Sahib police rushed to the spot and launched a search operation to trace the missing constable. Rescue efforts were continuing till the filing of this report.

Salman’s sister, Jaspal, said her brother had been married only a few months ago  on February 11. She added that he was serving with the Punjab Police at Ludhiana's Division No. 7 Police Station.

Notably, a similar incident was reported at the same location a day earlier when a young man from Faridabad, Uttar Pradesh, was swept away while bathing in the water body. The back-to-back incidents have raised concerns about safety measures and warning systems at the popular spot.
