Flood-like situation in Punjab's Gaggomahal: Farmers allege administrative negligence as paddy fields submerged
PTC Web Desk: Heavy rainfall has created flood-like conditions in Gaggomahal village and nearby areas of Punjab, with farmers alleging that administrative negligence has worsened the situation. The claims were made by the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Ekta Sangharsh), Punjab.
BKU Ekta Sangharsh Punjab president Palwinder Singh Mahal said continuous rainfall has led to severe waterlogging in roads, agricultural fields and residential areas, causing major inconvenience to local residents. According to the farmers' union, the Dera Baba Nanak-Amritsar road and several link roads have been submerged, disrupting movement in the region.

The union claimed that standing paddy crops are submerged due to the accumulation of rainwater, putting farmers at risk of significant financial losses. Palwinder Singh Mahal alleged that the situation worsened because drains were not cleaned before the monsoon and vegetation under bridges was not removed, affecting the natural flow of water.
The farmers' body alleged that despite the worsening situation, no relief teams, JCB machines or senior administrative officials had reached the affected villages. It claimed that local residents are making efforts on their own to drain the water, while the government machinery has failed to respond effectively. These allegations have been made by the farmers' union.
BKU Ekta Sangharsh has urged the Punjab Government and the district administration to take immediate steps to provide relief in the affected areas.
The union has demanded the deployment of machinery to drain out water, a special survey of damaged crops, adequate compensation for affected farmers and strict action against officials found negligent.
