Balbir Singh Rajewal warns of intensified protests

Addressing a press conference, farmer leader Balbir Singh Rajewal said a successful tractor march was held across Punjab today in protest against the state government’s land pooling policy. “The march was a clear indication that Punjab is ready to rewrite its history once again,” Rajewal said, adding that the government must abandon its rigid stance and acknowledge its mistakes.

He questioned whether the recent developments in regions like Jagroan and Mohali were part of a larger conspiracy to alter the socio-political landscape of Punjab.

Rajewal said, “We will not settle for mere notifications; we demand a complete withdrawal of the land pooling policy.”

He further announced that the SKM would will hold a meeting in Ludhiana on August 4 to decide the next course of action. If the government continues to remain unyielding, a massive rally will be organised on August 24, during which the next phase of the agitation will be announced.

Today’s tractor march covered 116 villages—76 affected by proposed housing projects and 40 by commercial schemes—demonstrating widespread opposition to the land pooling initiative.
