Agniveer jawan on leave killed in road accident in Punjab's Mansa district
PTC News Desk: An Agniveer soldier was killed in a road accident in Punjab's Mansa district, two days after returning home on leave.
The deceased soldier has been identified as Balveer Singh, resident of Manderna village in Mansa district. He will be cremated with full state honours.
Balveer Singh had joined the Indian Army as an Agniveer on August 14, 2021. The accident occurred near Nehru Memorial Government College in Mansa when his motorcycle collided with a road divider, killing him on the spot.
Balveer is survived by his parents and siblings. His last rites will be performed with full state honours in his native village, Manderna.
Following the post-mortem examination, an Indian Army contingent arrived at Mansa Civil Hospital to receive the body. Former servicemen also paid their respects before the Army took the mortal remains to the village for the final rites.
Station House Officer Gurtej Singh of City-2 Police Station confirmed the incident. He said proceedings under Section 174 were initiated based on the statement of the soldier's father, Roop Singh. After the post-mortem, the body was handed over to the family.
