Punjab MC elections 2026 LIVE UPDATES: Voting across 68 wards in four Municipal Councils, 403 candidates in fray
Municipal Council Elections Live Updates: The stage is set for elections to four municipal councils in Punjab. Voting for the municipal councils of Gurdaspur, Dinanagar, Qadian and Sham Chaurasi will be held on June 13. The Punjab State Election Commission has completed all preparations for the polls. Notably, the elections will be conducted using Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) instead of ballot papers.
Voting will begin at 8 am and continue until 4 pm. The results are expected to be announced soon after the voting process is completed.
According to the Election Commission, voting will take place across 68 wards in these four municipal councils, with a total of 403 candidates contesting the elections.
The Municipal Council of Gurdaspur has 29 wards, while Dinanagar and Qadian have 15 wards each. The Sham Chaurasi Municipal Council in Hoshiarpur district has 9 wards, for which 9 polling booths have been set up.
It is worth noting that elections to eight municipal corporations and 104 municipal councils were held across Punjab on May 29, in which the Aam Aadmi Party secured a majority.
