The scenes featuring Sonam Bajwa with alcohol and cigarette has drawn significant criticism from the Punjab Kalakar Manch, calling it grave violation of Sikh code of conduct.
The forum’s chief, Sukhminderpal Singh, said they have written to the central government and the Censor Board demanding a ban on the film. A member of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has also objected to the promotion of smoking and alcohol citing wrong portrayal of Sikh women.
Trailer of Nikka Zaildar-4 released
The trailer of Nikka Zaildar 4 was released a week ago featuring Sonam Bajwa and Ammy Virk in lead roles. In the movie, Sonam is portrayed as a daughter-in-law addicted to alcohol and she is seen repeatedly consuming alcohol in a three-minute long trailer.
In another scene, she is also shown smoking a cigerette.
Forum calls it a violation of Sikh code of conduct
Sukhminderpal Singh said that while they had praised artists who came forward to help during floods, some others are crossing limits despite doing good work.
“Sonam Bajwa is portrayed as a Sikh family’s daughter-in-law holding a cigarette. This is an insult to Sikh women and Sikh principles,” he said, adding that they have already filed a complaint with the Centre and the Censor Board.
SGPC member Gurcharan Singh Grewal said, “I haven’t seen the film, but we put up large posters everywhere saying smoking is injurious to health. Such habits should not be promoted. Showing drinking and smoking in films is wrong. And if she is doing this while dressed in Sikh attire, then it is highly inappropriate.”
