Punjab and Haryana HC quashes petition filed by Simarjit Singh Bains in rape case

In a major setback to Lok Insaf Party chief Simarjit Singh Bains, the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Friday dismissed his petition challenging the lower court orders in a rape case.

Following a complaint by the victim, the Ludhiana court had directed the police to register an FIR against Simarjit Singh Bains in a rape case.

Earlier on July 12, the Punjab and Haryana High Court had issued a notice to the complainant and the Punjab Police seeking their responses.

The High Court had reserved its order on July 15.

It is pertinent to mention that a case has been registered against Simarjit Bains under IPC sections 376, 354, 354-A, 506, and 120B on directions of Ludhiana district court.

MLA Bains is among seven people named in the FIR. The other accused are Kamaljit Singh, Baljinder Kaur, Jasbir Kaur alias Bhabhi, Sukhchain Singh, Paramjit Singh alias Pamma, Gogi Sharma of Ludhiana.

Meanwhile, Shiromani Akali Dal has been demanding the arrest of Bains.
