Khadoor Sahib Lok Sabha seat: AAP and BJP lead with candidates; SAD and Congress await

Khadoor Sahib Lok Sabha seat: In the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections for the Khadoor Sahib parliamentary seat, two key contenders, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), have taken proactive steps by revealing their candidates. However, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and the Congress are yet to disclose their nominees, setting the stage for an engaging political contest.

AAP has positioned Laljit Singh Bhullar, a Cabinet minister, as its representative for the Khadoor Sahib constituency. Meanwhile, the BJP has chosen Manjit Singh Manna Mianwind to carry its banner in this Lok Sabha election.

Khadoor Sahib, often referred to as a "mini Punjab," encompasses nine Assembly segments that span across the Majha, Doaba, and Malwa regions, spread across four districts. Renowned for its historical Sikh shrines, the constituency draws a considerable number of devotees, particularly after their visits to the revered Golden Temple. Despite its rich cultural heritage and religious significance, the area's potential for tourism, notably the development of the Hari Ke Pattan wetland, remains largely untapped. This presents a notable opportunity for economic advancement, particularly in its predominantly agrarian sector.

The decision of sitting Congress MP Jasbir Singh Dimpa Gill to refrain from contesting in this Lok Sabha election has opened the field for several aspirants within the party. Noteworthy among them is Rana Inder Pratap Singh, an Independent MLA from Sultanpur Lodhi, and the son of senior Congress leader Rana Gurjeet Singh. Singh holds influence in constituencies falling under the purview of Khadoor Sahib, further adding depth to the upcoming political contest.

In contrast, Manjit Singh Manna Mianwind, the BJP's chosen candidate, brings his experience as a former Akali MLA to the forefront. However, Mianwind's involvement in a 2015 incident near the Khalchian police station adds an element of scrutiny to his candidacy.

Historically, Khadoor Sahib has been considered an Akali stronghold, setting the stage for a competitive electoral battle. The early announcements of candidates by AAP and BJP have set the tone for an active political landscape, with SAD and Congress expected to announce their candidates soon. This election promises to be vibrant and closely watched, given the constituency's significant historical and cultural significance within Punjab.
