Punjab elections 2022: SSM releases manifesto, promises unemployment allowance

Chandigarh, February 8: Ahead of Punjab assembly polls 2022, umbrella party of 22 farmer groups the Sanyukt Samaj Morcha (SSM) has launched its manifesto. The party is being led by Punjab's farmer leader Balbir Singh Rajewal.

After getting the recognition of the Sanyukt Samaj Morcha (SSM) as a political party, SSM is undergoing preparation to contest the Assembly elections. However, all the candidates of the Morcha have filed their nominations as independent candidates.

The Sanyukt Samaj Morcha was established after the lonf battle that farmers’ fought against the three back laws. Prior, there were speculations of SSM challenging Punjab polls in alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party. However, Rajewal has clarified that there will be no alliance.

In the manifesto, SSM has promised to launch "Farmer Rescue Commission" that will ensure minimum income of Rs. 25,000 / - per farmer.

“Farmers in the villages will be given a fair price of their crops and we will set up food processing industry to provide employment opportunities. Subsidies and other benefits will be provided for installation like Debt of Rs. 5 lakhs for these industries will be given at 2% interest.” Said the manifesto.

Punjab will go to the polls on February 20.
