Baba Lakha Singh submits explanation to Sri Akal Takht Sahib, admits meeting with CM Mann was mistake

Sri Akal Takht Sahib had sought an explanation from Baba Lakha Singh regarding his alleged praise of the Punjab government's ‘Jagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act, 2026’ and his meeting with Bhagwant Mann on September 29.

PTC News Desk: Nanaksar Kaleran's Baba Lakha Singh appeared before the Akal Takht Sahib Secretariat on Saturday to submit his explanation over meeting CM Bhagwant Mann. He had been questioned over a private meeting with Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and alleged praise for a sacrilege-related law. In his written response to Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gadgajj, Baba Lakha Singh admitted that meeting the Chief Minister was a mistake.


Sri Akal Takht Sahib had sought an explanation from Baba Lakha Singh regarding his alleged praise of the Punjab government's ‘Jagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act, 2026’ and his meeting with Bhagwant Mann on September 29. The Akal Takht had raised objections to the law.


'Meeting was related to hospital work'


Baba Lakha Singh said he met the Chief Minister to discuss work related to a Nanaksar sect hospital because government officials were unable to resolve the matter. He also clarified that he had not praised the law and claimed that the Punjab government had issued statements in his name.


He said he has always remained committed to Sri Akal Takht Sahib and respects all orders issued by the Takht. He admitted that he should not have met the Chief Minister.


Denied praising sacrilege law


Baba Lakha Singh denied praising the Punjab government's sacrilege-related law. He said he had not issued any statement regarding the law and claimed that the Punjab government had issued the statement in his name on its own.


Decision to be taken by five Singh Sahibs


Bagicha Singh, in-charge of the Sri Akal Takht Sahib Secretariat, said the Jathedar had received Baba Lakha Singh's explanation and apology. The matter will now be discussed at a meeting of the five Singh Sahibs, after which a decision will be taken.


Letters were also issued to SGPC members


The Sri Akal Takht Sahib Secretariat had also issued letters to two members associated with the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), Mithu Singh Kahneke and Jaswant Singh Pudain, in connection with the meeting with the Chief Minister.


All three were asked to submit their explanations within 10 days regarding their meeting with Bhagwant Mann.
