PTC Web Desk: The Patiala Police have arrested two men in connection with the recent student unrest at Chitkara University in Rajpura, alleging that they spread misleading information on social media to provoke students.

The arrested men have been identified as Himanshu, a resident of Nangal, and Aryan, from Ambala, according to the police.

The police said an FIR was registered at Banur police station after the incident, following which an investigation was launched.

During the probe, the police examined social media activity and messages that were circulated online in connection with the campus situation.

According to the police, the investigation found that the two accused had allegedly shared misleading messages that encouraged students and added to the tension on the university campus.

10 more named in FIR

The police said 10 other persons have also been named in the FIR. Teams have been formed and sent to different locations to trace and arrest the remaining accused, the police said.

Authorities are also examining the social media material linked to the incident as part of the ongoing investigation.

Patiala SSP Harmandeep Hans said the police would continue working to maintain peace and ensure that the situation remains under control.

The investigation is ongoing, and further action will be taken based on the evidence collected by the police.

Meanwhile, in the Lovely Professional University violence case, which came close on the heels of unrest in Chitkara university, the police have arrested nine persons.

The arrested include seven students and two persons from outside the university, according to the police. Investigators have so far identified 20 persons and named them in the case.

DIG Navin Singla said during a press conference that arrests had been made from different places, including Phagwara, Jammu and Mumbai, as part of the investigation.

The police have also identified the person seen climbing on the MiG-23UM fighter aircraft displayed outside the university campus during the violence.

Investigators examined CCTV footage from the area and traced the person to Mandi district in Himachal Pradesh, where he was subsequently arrested. The police said the accused is a minor and an LPU student from Mandi.

His photograph, showing him standing on top of the fighter aircraft with flames visible in the background, had circulated widely on social media during the incident.

The image drew considerable attention online, with the minor being portrayed by some social media users as a hero during the unrest.

University officials, however, criticised the act of climbing on the military aircraft displayed outside the campus.

The police said the investigation into the LPU violence is continuing and further arrests may follow.
