ED raids GMADA office in Mohali over Rs 150 cr CLU scam, seize records
The ED teams have started a search at the office and are examining documents related to the case.
PTC News Desk: The Enforcement Directorate on Tuesday raided the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) office in Mohali in connection with alleged wrongful grant of change of land use (CLU) permissions to private builders. The central agency sleuths were accompanied by a strong posse of CRPF personnel.
Teams from Jalandhar, Chandigarh and Delhi are reportedly involved in the operation.
The ED teams have started a search at the office and are examining documents related to the case.
At least three floors were sealed, while the mobile phones of top officials were taken into custody.
Officials said the ED was probing several alleged irregularities, including land acquisitions, change of land use cases, alleged benefits extended to private realtors and auction of properties.
The agency is investigating an alleged ₹150-crore Change of Land Use (CLU) scam and fee evasion case involving the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA). Several projects, including Suntec City in New Chandigarh, are reportedly under investigation.
The ED had earlier conducted searches at the premises of two builders in connection with these projects. The latest action is believed to be linked to the same case.
IAS officers summoned
IAS officer Kanwalpreet Brar questioned: IAS officer Kanwalpreet Brar was questioned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on August 18 and August 27. Reports said she was questioned for around 8 to 9 hours on August 18. She has previously served as the director of the Town and Country Planning Department.
Former Chief Secretary Anurag Verma also appeared: Former Punjab Chief Secretary Anurag Verma appeared before the ED at its Jalandhar zonal office on September 9, 2026. According to reports, he was questioned for more than eight hours. At the time, he was heading the Housing and Urban Development Department.
Mohali SSP summoned: The ED issued a summons to the Mohali SSP on September 10, 2026, seeking records and information related to the investigation.
ED Has Been Investigating GMADA Projects for Four Months
The ED has been investigating projects linked to GMADA for the past four months.
Earlier, on May 7, 2026, the agency conducted a raid at Flat No. 906 of Western Towers Society in Kharar, Mohali. During the operation, two bags allegedly filled with cash were thrown from the ninth floor of the building. ₹500 notes were scattered on the ground, and around ₹21 lakh in cash was reportedly recovered.
Searches at 12 locations
The action was reportedly part of an investigation into an alleged money-laundering case linked to the Suntec City project and the alleged CLU scam. Searches were carried out at around 12 locations across Mohali and Chandigarh.
The flat was reportedly linked to Nitin Goyal, also known as Nitin Kumar Gohil.
The raid also led to a political controversy after Punjab minister Aman Arora's name was linked to the matter. The builder was described as being close to the minister. Arora later held a press conference and responded to the allegations.
