PTC News cameraman Raj Kumar was allegedly slapped and his phone snatched at Amritsar’s Guru Nanak Dev Hospital. AAP leader’s son is accused
PTC Web Desk: A PTC News cameraman was allegedly abused, slapped and robbed of his mobile phone at Guru Nanak Dev Hospital in Amritsar on Friday while covering the hospital’s handling of an accused in police custody. The accused has been identified as Sarpreet Singh, son of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Majitha in-charge Talbir Singh Gill.
Cameraman Raj Kumar Babloo was on assignment at the hospital when the incident took place. According to PTC News, Sarpreet Singh arrived at the spot, misbehaved with him and took away his phone.
The channel had received information about Jatinder Singh, said to be close to Talbir Singh Gill. Jatinder had reportedly been absconding for a long time in several cases, including one registered under Section 307 and was arrested by the police a few days ago following a High Court order.
He had been admitted to the hospital for several days, where he was allegedly given VIP treatment. The hospital declared him fit and discharged him on Thursday, but sources told the channel that he was refusing to be shifted to jail.
The police reached the hospital early on Friday to take him back into custody. Jatinder allegedly was not willing to go and the channel sent Raj Kumar to cover the developing story.
Sources claimed that Jatinder’s refusal came amid the intervention of Talbir Singh Gill. It was while the team was covering the standoff that Gill’s son allegedly arrived and confronted the cameraman.
