Punjab Bandh on October 15 over Parvinder Singh Jhota's murder; Insaaf Morcha seeks CBI probe, resignations of CM and DGP
Parvinder Singh Jhota murder: The Insaaf Morcha has called for a Punjab Bandh on October 15 from 6 am to 5 pm, following the murder of anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhota in Mansa on Tuesday. Transport services are expected to remain suspended and school buses will not ply during the shutdown. Only patients and ambulances will be allowed to move.
Jhota’s father has appealed to people from all sections of society to support the bandh. He alleged that the police were behind his son’s murder. The family has demanded the resignations of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and the Director General of Police (DGP). They have also sought a CBI investigation into the killing and compensation for those injured in the incident.
The family has expressed deep anger over the delay in registering the First Information Report (FIR), which they say was filed nearly 30 hours after the murder. According to the family, there was a serious lapse by the police during and after the incident. The Morcha has alleged collusion between police officials and the accused, claiming that people travelling to join the protest site were stopped.
It has also alleged that despite repeated calls from Jhota, the police did not reach the spot. The family has demanded the dismissal of the SHO, SSP and DSP concerned.
The bandh call has drawn support from several political and religious organisations. The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), the Shiromani Akali Dal, farmer unions and the Congress have extended backing to the shutdown.
Traders’ bodies have been urged to join the call. Vyapar Mandal has been asked to direct all shopkeepers to keep their establishments closed and cooperate with the bandh. Appeals have also been made to universities and colleges to participate in the protest.
Organisers have urged people to keep the protest peaceful and avoid any disruption of law and order. They have asked supporters to show solidarity through closure of businesses and suspension of transport, while ensuring that emergency services remain unaffected.
Jhota’s father said the family would continue its fight until justice is delivered, and urged the public to stand together in the demand for accountability.
