PTC News Desk: India enjoyed another strong day at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow as weightlifter Mirabai Chanu won a historic gold medal, taking the country's overall medal tally to four.
Mirabai lifted a Games record total of 190kg to win the women's 48kg weightlifting event, securing her third consecutive Commonwealth Games gold medal. India also added two silver medals in weightlifting, with Chanambam Rishikanta Singh finishing second in the men's 60kg category and Raja Muthupandi claiming silver in the men's 65kg event.
Meanwhile, in boxing, Jadumani Singh and Preeti Pawar advanced to the quarterfinals with convincing victories. Jadumani defeated Pakistan's Sumama Rehman by a unanimous 5-0 decision at the SEC Centre, delivering a dominant performance in front of a lively crowd chanting "Bharat Mata ki Jai" and "India, India." Confident after taking control of the contest, Jadumani comfortably managed the final round with sharp counterattacks and quick footwork.
Meanwhile, Aditya Pratap's campaign ended after he suffered a narrow defeat in his opening-round bout.
Jadumani, who had dedicated his previous victory to the heroes of the Kargil War on Kargil Vijay Diwas, reiterated his goal after booking his place in the last eight.
“I want to dedicate this win to Kargil heroes. I want to defeat everyone and get gold for India," he said.
The victory leaves Jadumani just one win away from assuring himself of a medal.
