Sakshi Malik denies distancing from protest:  After news of the minor female wrestler withdrawing her complaint against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh went viral on social media on Monday, the wrestler took to her Twitter handle and clarified her withdrwal.

She wrote, "This news is completely wrong. In the fight for justice, none of us has backed down, nor will we. Along with Satyagraha, I am fulfilling my responsibility in Railways. Our fight continues till justice is served. Please don't spread any wrong news."

Notably, Olympian wrestlers Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik and Vinesh Phogat met Union Home Minister Amit Shah at his official residence in Delhi on Saturday, June 4, to discuss the matter related to their protest against the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. The meeting was held four days after the wrestlers’ threatened to immerse their medals in the Ganga river and gave a five-day ultimatum for action against Brij Bhusan.

While addressing to media, Sakshi Malik said, "We met Union Home Minister Amit Shah, it was a normal conversation, we have only one demand and that is to arrest him (Brij Bhushan Singh). I have not stepped back from the protest, I have resumed my work as OSD in Railways. I want to clarify that we will keep protesting until we get justice. We will not step back. She (minor girl) has not taken back any FIR, all this is fake."

The Case

In January, several wrestlers held a silent protest at Jantar Mantar and met representatives of the Union Sports Ministry to seek action against the WFI chief.  They sought the sacking of the WFI chief. They also sought to dissolve the entire wrestling federation. However, the sports ministry told them that in accordance with the Olympic Charter, "there is a procedure for dissolving any organisation that must be followed".

Taking on the Centre, the protesting wrestlers said how long it would take the government committee to submit its report. It had already been months.
