Mumbai (Maharashtra), May 22: Sunrisers Hyderabad batter Vivrant Sharma set a 15-year-old record for the highest score on debut in the Indian Premier League (IPL) by an Indian player.

Vivrant Sharma, a Jammu and Kashmir native, reached the milestone against the Mumbai Indians on Sunday at Wankhede Stadium. Sunrisers Hyderabad set a goal of 200 with five wickets lost. In 2008, Swapnil Asnodkar of Rajasthan Royals scored 60 runs against KKR in Jaipur. For 15 years, he held the best score by an Indian player in his IPL debut. He played first-class cricket for Goa and for the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Gautam Gambhir, the coach of the Lucknow Super Giants, scored 58 runs against the Rajasthan Royals in his IPL debut in 2008 while playing for the Delhi Daredevils.

When asked to bat first, SRH openers Vivrant and Mayank Agarwal made a great start in the powerplay, losing no wickets and scoring 53 runs. They went on to put on a 140-run first-wicket stand, with Vivrant getting 69 in 47 balls and Mayank scoring 83 in 46 balls, with eight fours and four sixes. SRH scored 200/5 in 20 overs.

MI's bowler of choice was Akash Madhwal, who took 4/37.

MI lost Ishan Kishan (14) early in the chase, but skipper Rohit Sharma (56 in 37 balls) and Cameron Green aided MI with a 128-run second-wicket stand. Green made his first IPL century, scoring 100* in 47 balls with eight fours and eight sixes. Suryakumar Yadav's cameo (25* in 16 balls) helped MI win by eight wickets with two overs to spare.
