Smriti Mandhana-Palash Muchhal's wedding postponed after cricketer's father falls ill
PTC News Desk: The much-anticipated wedding of cricketer Smriti Mandhana and music composer-filmmaker Palash Muchhal has been indefinitely postponed after her father fell ill and was rushed to the hospital. Mandhana's manager confirmed that the family decided to put the ceremony on hold.
According to Mandhana’s manager, the cricketer made it clear that she did not wish to proceed with the wedding in the midst of a medical emergency involving her family.
"This morning, while they were having breakfast, Smriti's father, Shriniwas Mandhana, suddenly started feeling unwell. We waited for a while, hoping he might feel better, but his condition kept worsening. So we decided not to take any risk, called an ambulance, and took him to the hospital. He is currently under observation."
"We all know how close Smriti is to her father. So, Smriti has decided that the marriage will be postponed until her father recovers."
"He is under observation. Doctors have advised to keep him in the hospital for now. They are conducting various tests."
"We are all in shock. We hope he recovers quickly. This is a big occasion for all of us."
The cricketer's wedding was scheduled to take place on November 23 in a private ceremony attended only by close friends and family. The pre-wedding celebrations had been underway for the past couple of days.
Many of Smriti Mandhana’s teammates — including Jemimah Rodrigues, Radha Yadav, Shafali Verma, Arundhati Reddy, Shivali Shinde and Richa Ghosh — joined her to celebrate the occasion. A video of Smriti happily dancing with her teammates during the Haldi ceremony went viral, showing the joyful and festive atmosphere.
Smriti had announced her engagement to music composer Palash Muchhal with a fun Instagram reel, where she danced with her India teammates to the famous “Samjho Ho Hi Gaya” song from Lage Raho Munna Bhai (2006). Jemimah, Shreyanka, Radha and Arundhati also featured in the dance, which doubled as a cheerful engagement announcement.
The next day, Palash posted a heartfelt proposal video from Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium — the same venue where India won the Women’s World Cup. Smriti, blindfolded and led to the centre of the pitch, was surprised when Palash got down on one knee and proposed.
