PTC Web Desk: India and South Africa cricket teams will arrive in New Chandigarh this evening ahead of Thursday’s T20 International at Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur. Both squads are expected to land around 5 pm and will proceed directly to their hotels. Extensive preparations are underway at the stadium, with security arrangements being reviewed by the Punjab Police to ensure smooth crowd management. Special surveillance cameras are being installed at all entry gates and inside the stadium premises.

The teams, currently playing a five-match T20 series, are travelling to Chandigarh from Bhubaneswar. India won the opening match in Cuttack on December 9 with a commanding 101-run victory. Players and match officials will be accommodated at Hyatt Regency and Hyatt Centric in Chandigarh. The second match of the series will be played on December 11 in Chandigarh, after which both teams will fly to Dharamshala on December 12 for the third game scheduled on December 14.

The Indian squad includes three players from Punjab — Shubman Gill, Arshdeep Singh and Abhishek Sharma. For Gill and Arshdeep, Chandigarh-Mohali is home turf, and local fans are eagerly awaiting their performance. In the IPL, Gill represents Gujarat Titans, Arshdeep Singh plays for Punjab Kings, while Abhishek Sharma features for Sunrisers Hyderabad. Gill and Sharma are mentored by former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh.

Meanwhile, the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) announced that Thursday’s match will mark a historic moment for the Mullanpur stadium, as it will host its first men’s international match since its construction. PCA president Amarjit Singh announced that all preparations have been finalised, and match tickets are already sold out due to overwhelming public interest.

Before the match, the PCA will formally inaugurate two newly named stands, one dedicated to former India star Yuvraj Singh and the other to India women’s team captain Harmanpreet Kaur. Additionally, three Punjab players who delivered standout performances in the recent Women’s World Cup will be honoured during the ceremony.
