The death toll mounted to 10,742 with 11 new fatalities, while 6,19,213 patients have recovered, it said. The number of people under home isolation stands at 3,744, while there are 355 containment zones in the city.

Delhi has seen a steady rise in the number of cases in the past few days, prompting the government to announce a weekend curfew from Friday evening till Monday morning during which only essential services will be allowed.

The Delhi government has also banned all social, political, cultural and sports events with immediate effect. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has urged people to take the virus seriously and follow all health protocols.

The government has also asked people to get tested if they experience even mild symptoms. Experts have said that the surge in cases could be attributed to the laxity in following the Covid-appropriate behaviour among people. They have urged the government to strictly enforce the rules and urged people to get vaccinated to contain the spread of the virus.
