Tragic Loss: Two soldiers swept away in flash floods in Poonch, Jammu and Kashmir

Naib Subedar Kuldeep Singh's body was recovered on Saturday night, while Sepoy Telu Ram's body was found today

Poonch, July 09: Tragedy struck in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district as two soldiers lost their lives when they were swept away by flash floods caused by heavy rains. The incident occurred when the soldiers were attempting to cross Dogra nallah in the Surankote area on Saturday.

The Indian Army confirmed that the strong current carried them away, leading to their unfortunate demise.

The body of Naib Subedar Kuldeep Singh was recovered from the stream on Saturday night, while the body of Sepoy Telu Ram was found today, intensifying the grief felt by their families and fellow soldiers. The 16 Corps of the Indian Army paid homage to Naib Subedar Kuldeep Singh, acknowledging his supreme sacrifice during an Area Domination Patrol in the challenging terrains of Poonch. The Army expressed solidarity with the bereaved family during this difficult time.

The situation in Jammu and Kashmir remains grim as heavy rainfall persisted for the third consecutive day, prompting authorities to issue a red alert for two districts. Kathua, Samba, and other lower catchment areas of the Jammu region are at high risk of flooding and flash floods. The meteorological department spokesperson urged all concerned individuals to remain vigilant and alert for the next 24 hours.

The loss of two soldiers in the flash floods serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by extreme weather conditions in the region. The Indian Army continues to bravely serve in challenging environments, protecting the nation and its citizens. The sacrifices made by soldiers like Naib Subedar Kuldeep Singh and Sepoy Telu Ram highlight the selflessness and dedication displayed by the armed forces in the face of adversity.
