Untimely rain and hailstorms cause huge loss to farmers in northern India

This year, the wheat sown area is around 34 million hectare. The government is estimating a record 112.2 million tonne wheat output in the ongoing 2022-23 crop year (July-June), the officials said.

PTC News Desk: As per the latest reports, untimely rains, strong winds and hailstorm have hit the wheat crop in northern India, mainly in Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, causing damage over 5.23 lakh hectare. The untimely rains has caused a huge setback to the farmers and they are now staring at a loss in yield.

The hailstorms have been accompanied by thunderstorms, strong winds and heavy rains in some parts of Punjab and Uttar Pradesh, which has caused destruction to the Rabi crop, particularly wheat. The districts of Agra, Aligarh, Etah, Hathras, Mathura and Mainpuri were the worst-hit.
