Who started the ‘Me at 21’ trend?

The inception of this trend can be attributed to Damian Ruff, a 43-year-old staff member at Whole Foods hailing from Mesa, Arizona. Ruff initiated the phenomenon by posting a photo from a memorable family vacation in Mexico, commemorating his 21st birthday with a Dos Equis in hand and a small sombrero perched atop his head. His post, combined with Instagram's shareable story template feature introduced in 2021, triggered a cascade effect that rapidly spread across the platform.
