92 Punjab residents among thousands of Indians stranded in Nepal as tensions escalate

PTC News Desk: A jatha of 92 passengers who travelled from Punjab's Amritsar to Nepal has been stranded there after violent clashes broke out. While navigating their way through the arson and curfew restrictions, the group managed to reach the India-Nepal border and is expected to return home today. 


Efforts to bring back stranded Indians in Nepal are underway. 


The group reportedly left from Amritsar on September 3 and reached Janakpur Dham on September 5 after crossing Nepal border. A day later, the group reached Kathmandu  and then to Pokhara. 


The group was scheduled to proceed further however. the situation became hostile as Gen Z launched protests against the government prompting ouster of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. 


In view of the increasing violence in Nepal, Indian security agencies have also increased vigilance on the border. Strict checking of people coming and going on the border is being done. Temporary restrictions have also been imposed at many places due to worsening of the situation.


Meanwhile preparations are underway to send special aircraft to evacuate Indian citizens stranded at Kathmandu airport. The government of India is making efforts in order to ensure safe evacuation of the citizens. Currently, more than 400 Indian citizens are stuck at Kathmandu airport.
