PTC News Desk: Violence erupted in parts of Mexico on Sunday following reports that drug kingpin Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, better known as “El Mencho, had been killed by the army.

The unrest triggered massive disruptions, bringing road traffic to a standstill and subsequent flight cancellations, with chaos reported at some of the busiest airports of the country.

Amid unrest that mexico was reeling under, a US-based tech firm stepped in to extend assistance to one of its employees in leaving the country safely.

Cloud platform company Vercel arranged seats on every available flight headed to the United States from Guadalajara in a bid to ensure their staff member could get out

The employee, Andrew Barba, later shared his appreciation for the extraordinary effort in a post on X.

“10 hours ago, I was in Guadalajara on way to Puerto Vallarta when chaos broke out in the airport, and I had to hide in a bathroom. Vercel leadership got together and didn’t stop until my wife and I were safe," he wrote.

“The US flight was Plan A, but they were ready to act on Plan B and Plan C if they had to. We are beyond grateful," he concluded.

Barba also shared a video in the thread showing smoke arising from certain areas as his plane took off from Guadalajara airport.

The incident has sparked mixed reactions from netizens with many remarking on the extraordinary efforts taken by the company.

One user commented, “Lucky you had money and helpers to help. So many not so fortunate. And the locals who cannot evacuate. Hope you are thankful for your privilege."

Another said, “I’m really glad you and your wife are safe. That must have been terrifying to go through, and it’s good to hear you had people working urgently to get you out. Wishing you both some time to breathe and recover after such a stressful experience."

“If ever a company wanted to let you know how important you are to their ecosystem, this definitely ranks in the top 3 spots," someone else remarked.
