India surpasses UK to become 4th worst-hit nation due to coronavirus; tally nears 3 lakh

India reported the highest ever single-day spike of 10,956 new coronavirus cases and 396 deaths in the last 24 hours, as of Friday morning. The total number of cases in the country has increased to 2,97,535, including 1,41,842 active cases, 1,47,195 cured and discharged and 8,498 deaths, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said. Meanwhile, India surpassed the UK to become a fourth-worst coronavirus-hit country with total cases close to 2,97,535. The UK tally stands at 2,91,409 till date. India's number of active cases is less than the recovered patients in the country. The major concern is that the experts and politicians have been giving a statement about the coronavirus peak and community spread of COVID-19. Last month, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Director Randeep Guleria had stated that the Coronavirus is likely to peak in June-July, according to modeling data and the way India's cases are increasing.
