Coronavirus death toll in India jumps to 308; more than confirmed 9,100 cases

The total number of coronavirus (COVID 19) cases in India has jumped to 9152 after fresh cases were reported across the country while 35 deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours, as of Monday morning. Out of 9152, 856 have been cured and discharged while the death toll has increased to 308, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Ministry of Health and Family Welfare was quoted by news agency ANI as saying: "Total number of deaths rise to 308, 35 deaths in last 24 hours; India's total number of Coronavirus positive cases rises to 9152 (including 7987 active cases, 856 cured/ discharged/ migrated and 308 deaths)." The rising coronavirus cases have forced several state governments to extend the current 21-day lockdown, which is scheduled to end on April 14, by two weeks. However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is yet to speak on the plan for an extension of the national lockdown. Kerala, that reported India's first three coronavirus cases, reported only two cases on Sunday. Meanwhile, the Group of Ministers is expected to meet on Monday to take stock of the coronavirus situation with states, racing against time to keep health systems ready while hospitals have started filling up with sick people needing ventilators to breathe. The Government on Sunday stated that it had more beds than required but the skewed availability of hospital beds is a matter of concern. -PTC News
