Bengaluru shocker: Cab driver kills seven of wife’s family, including 7-year-old boy

PTC Web Desk: A cab driver has been accused of killing seven members of his wife’s family in Bengaluru’s Srirampura area, police sources said on Friday. The victims include a seven-year-old boy.

The accused, Shekhar, is said to have carried out the killings over two days at his home on 59th Cross, near Bhashyam Circle, which falls under Rajajinagar police station limits. He then allegedly dumped the bodies at different places, including Nandi Hills in Chikkaballapur district and Charmadi Ghat in coastal Karnataka. Rajajinagar police have arrested him and are trying to establish exactly when each murder happened.

Family quarrels behind the crime

According to police sources, Shekhar and his wife Sunita, married for about 20 years, often fought over her visits to her parents’ home. Relatives tried to patch things up, but the tension never went away. Shekhar was reportedly angry that Sunita got support from her mother and brothers and he allegedly decided to wipe out her family.

How the killings took place

The police say Shekhar first killed Sunita with a grinding stone, wrapped her body in cloth and left it near Nandi Hills. He then switched off her phone and told neighbours she had gone on a trip, so that nobody would suspect anything.

The next day, he allegedly invited his brothers-in-law, Shivakumar and Shankar, home for a party and killed them with the same stone. He then allegedly murdered their wives, Divya and Nalini, his mother-in-law Rupavati and Shivakumar’s seven-year-old son Puneeth.

How the case came to light

The crime surfaced on Thursday, when Nalini’s mother filed a missing person complaint at Srirampura police station. During the probe, the police uncovered the killings and arrested Shekhar.

The police said he used chemicals to wash the house and remove bloodstains. They have seized the car allegedly used to carry the bodies, along with the grinding stone.

Puneeth’s body was found near Nandi Hills after a long search. The police are still looking for the other bodies.

Shekhar reportedly told investigators he was upset over the family disputes. The police are now checking whether anyone helped him, including the possible role of his daughter. They are also looking into how such a crime went unnoticed in a busy residential neighbourhood.
