Delhi Covid curbs to ease, positivity rate at 10%

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday said that Covid restrictions in the national capital will soon be lifted as the city's positivity rate has reduced by 20 percent in the last 10 days. Covid positivity rate in Delhi stands at 10 percent on Tuesday. "In the previous ten days, the Covid positivity rate has fallen by 20%. It's at ten percent now, compared to thirty percent on January 15. All of this is due to the consistent vaccination rate," said Kejriwal while addressing a program in Delhi. Lauding the efforts of healthcare workers, the CM added that 100 percent population of Delhi has been administered the first dose of the Covid vaccine and 82 percent have received the second shot. Soon we will try to ease restrictions," said Kejriwal. Kejriwal also said that India is currently experiencing the third wave of Covid-19, while Delhi is experiencing the fifth wave of the pandemic. The Chief Minister stated that he had sent proposals to the Lieutenant Governor to lift restrictions, but that he had turned them down. "We'll shortly lift the restrictions together," he continued. In light of the decreasing number of Covid cases, the Delhi administration suggested relaxing weekend curfews in the national capital on Friday. The file was sent to Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal's office for clearance, however, it was turned down. On Monday, Delhi continued to see a drop in daily Covid-19 infections, with 5,760 new infections and an 11.79 percent daily positivity rate.
