Delhi police arrest five illegal Bangladeshis for attempting to trespass Red Fort
PTC News Desk: Delhi police on Tuesday arrested five illegal Bangladeshi immigrants for attempting to forcibly enter Red Fort premises amid heightened security drills ahead of the Independence Day event.
According to officials, the arrests were made near the Red Fort's access control point by a police team deployed in the area. The men, aged between 20 and 25, failed to produce valid entry passes during routine checks and were found to be residing in the country illegally.
"All of them are illegal immigrants. They tried to forcibly enter the Red Fort premises," the police said.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North District), Raja Banthiya said, five were intercepted by police personnel on August 4. During the interrogation, it was discovered that all of them entered Indian illegally about three to four months ago and were working as labourers in Delhi.
"They claimed they were unaware that the Red Fort has been closed for the public since July 15. Bangladeshi documents were recovered from them, but no suspicious material or activity came to light during their interrogation," Banthiya added.
