Diljit Dosanjh’s New Chandigarh concert: Organisers ask police for six armed commandos ahead of December 12 show

PTC Web Desk: The organisers of Diljit Dosanjh’s Aura India Tour have asked the police for security cover for the singer-actor during his December 12 concert in New Chandigarh. They say there could be disruptions at the venue.

After Chandigarh, Diljit will head to Ludhiana for a show on December 15. The venue there is yet to be confirmed.

In a letter sent to the Chandigarh and Punjab Police, the organisers said the Chandigarh show was the seventh stop on the tour. It is proposed at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, New Chandigarh. Formal permission for the venue has not been given yet.

The organisers have asked for six armed commandos and two personal security officers to stay with the artiste, coordination with airport security for his arrival and departure, including charter aircraft movements, escort vehicles and route security for all his trips to and from the venue,  police deployment at his hotel for the whole stay, police presence at the venue during rehearsals and on concert day, extra cover based on threat assessment, if needed and a smooth handover to Punjab Police when he leaves for Ludhiana.

The company has offered to bear all costs under government norms and to brief the police in person.

The letter was copied to the Special Secretary and the Joint Secretary (Internal Security) in the Union Home Ministry. It said Diljit was due to arrive in India on October 26 and asked for “urgent consideration”. His first India show is in Delhi on November 1.

The proposed venue is in Mullanpur in Mohali district, which comes under Punjab Police.

The India leg is co-produced and promoted by BookMyShow Live and Live Nation and tickets are being sold on BookMyShow. The promoters’ public announcement named seven cities, with the New Chandigarh and Ludhiana venues listed as proposed.

The stadium is owned by the Punjab Cricket Association and can hold about 38,000 people.

Diljit last performed in Chandigarh on December 14, 2024, at the Sector 34 Exhibition Ground as part of his Dil-Luminati Tour. The Punjab and Haryana High Court allowed that show on a PIL, capped noise at 75 dB(A) and warned of penal action for any breach.

The UT Administration later told the High Court that the noise limits had been exceeded. The Municipal Corporation also fined the organisers Rs 25,000 for leaving the ground littered.
