Jalandhar road accident: Couple, 6-year-old daughter killed after car hits scooty in Phillaur

PTC Web Desk: A religious outing turned tragic in Jalandhar’s Phillaur on Friday morning when a speeding car collided head-on with a scooty carrying a couple and their young daughter. The woman and her six-year-old daughter died in the crash, while the father later succumbed to his injuries.

The accident took place around 8.30 am.

The family, residents of Bhamian village in Ludhiana, had gone to Baba Murad Shah Dargah in Nakodar to pay obeisance. They were returning along with other relatives, who were travelling on scooters and motorcycles, when the accident occurred.

According to the police, the family members were travelling in a group when their scooty collided with a Toyota Etios car. The impact was so severe that the scooty was badly damaged. The victims were identified as Vinay Kumar, 38, his wife Suman, 35, and their daughter Kavisha, around six years old.

Suman and Kavisha were rushed to SDH Phillaur emergency department, where doctors declared them brought dead.

It is learnt that the mother-daughter duo suffered critical injuries and showed no signs of life by the time they reached the hospital.

Vinay Kumar also sustained serious injuries in the crash, including a fracture to his left leg.

After receiving initial treatment at SDH Phillaur, he was referred to Civil Hospital, Jalandhar, for further care. However, he later died during treatment. Another child who was travelling with

The driver of the car, identified as Rupinder Singh, was also injured in the collision. He suffered injuries to his nose and hand and was being treated at SDH Phillaur. Doctors suspected a fracture to his nasal bone.

The driver told hospital staff that he was travelling from Ludhiana towards Nurmahal when the car suddenly collided with the scooty. He said he could not understand how the accident happened.

The Phillaur police have started investigating the accident and are examining the circumstances that led to the collision.
