PTC Web Desk: The 71st National Film Awards ceremony took place on Tuesday at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, with President Droupadi Murmu presenting the awards to filmmakers and actors for their outstanding work released in 2023. The event saw Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukerji, and Vikrant Massey receiving their first National Awards in acting.
Shah Rukh Khan and Vikrant Massey shared the Best Actor accolade for their remarkable performances in Jawan and 12th Fail, respectively. Rani Mukerji was awarded Best Actress for her compelling role in Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway.
Shah Rukh Khan looked dapper in a black bandhgala, accessorised with shades and an ear cuff, adding his signature style to the formal look. His win for 'Jawan' marks a milestone in a career spanning over three decades. Directed by Atlee, 'Jawan' addresses critical social issues like unemployment and farmers’ distress while delivering high-octane entertainment, grossing over Rs 1,000 crore at the box office.
Rani Mukerji opted for a brown saree paired with minimal jewellery and makeup, her hair left open, exuding elegance. Her portrayal in Ashima Chibber’s 'Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway'—based on the true story of Indian couple Sagarika Chakraborty and Anurup Bhattacharya, whose children were taken by Norwegian authorities in 2011—won widespread acclaim for showcasing a mother’s resilience and strength.
Vikrant Massey donned a white bandhgala as he received the Best Actor award for '12th Fail', produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra. The film, inspired by IPS officer Manoj Kumar Sharma’s real-life story, was a sleeper hit, earning Rs 69.64 crore against a modest budget of Rs 20 crore.
The ceremony also honoured veteran actor Mohanlal with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in recognition of his immense contribution to Indian cinema.
