India logs 1,778 new Covid-19 cases in last 24 hours
New Delhi, March 23: India reported 1,778 fresh Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, said the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Wednesday. The active caseload of the country, on the other hand, declined further to 23,087.
The daily Covid cases in India remained below the 2,000 mark for the fourth consecutive day, as per the update. The country's active cases now comprise 0.06 percent of the total infections, while the cumulative Covid-19 tally in the country is now at 4,30,12,749.
The death toll has climbed to 5,16,543, with 33 daily fatalities and the recoveries have jumped to 4,24,70,515 with 2,542 recoveries in the last 24 hours.
The national Covid-19 recovery rate increased to 98.74 percent, while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.20 percent, according to the update by the government.
The daily positivity rate was 0.28 percent, while the weekly positivity rate was 0.39 percent, according to the health ministry.

In the last 24 hours, a total of 5,68,471 Covid-19 studies were conducted in India. India has conducted around 78.36 crore cumulative tests to date.
The total number of Covid vaccine doses administered in the country as part of the statewide vaccination effort has surpassed 181.56 crore.
Meanwhile, the Union government clarified in the Supreme Court on Tuesday that it has not made Covid-19 vaccines mandatory and has only stated that vaccination should be 100 percent.
As India continues to report a low number of Covid-19 cases, reports now suggest that cases of Omicron and Delta recombinant virus, found earlier this month, were also detected from seven states in India.
According to the Covid Genomics Consortium (INSACOG) and GSAID, as many as 568 cases are being examined. As per a Telangana Today report, Karnataka continues to be a hotspot with 221, followed by Tamil Nadu with 90, Maharashtra with 66, Gujarat with 33, West Bengal with 32, Telangana with 25 and New Delhi with 20.
