IPS officer Rishi Kumar Shukla appointed new CBI director
The former Director General (DGP) of Madhya Pradesh, Rishi Kumar Shukla was appointed as the Director of CBI on Saturday. He was appointed by a committee comprising of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Justice of India, Ranjan Gogoi and opposition leader Mallikarjun Kharge.

According to a government notification, his name was chosen from a shortlist of over 30 contenders. Rishi Kumar Shukla will head the CBI for a period of two years, the notification added.

After the unceremonious exit of Alok Verma, the post of CBI chief was lying vacant since January 10. Alok Verma engaged in a bitter fight with the deputy and Gujarat-carade IPS officer Rakesh Asthana over corruption allegations.
