Bhai Dooj 2024: As Diwali celebrations end, the auspicious celebration of Bhai Dooj is here. The festival celebrates a special bond between siblings and this year Bhai Dooj falls on November 3, 2024.

The festival, also known as Bhai Phota, Bhau Beej, Bhai Bij, Bhai Beej, Bhatru Dwitiya, Bhav Bij, Bhatri Ditya, Bhai Fota, and Bhai Tikka, is widely celebrated across the country.

On Bhai Dooj, sisters apply a tilak to their brothers and pray for their prosperity and longevity, honouring the special connection that exists between siblings.

With the festival approaching, here's all you need to know about Bhai Dooj, including the date and time and more.

Bhai Dooj 2024: Auspicious timings

The Dwitiya Tithi for Bhai Dooj will begin at 8:21 PM on November 2 and end at 10:05 PM on November 3rd. However, most of the celebrations will take place on November 3, which coincides with Udaya Tithi, which is traditionally the most important day.

Bhai Dooj 2024: Significance

Bhai Dooj is more than just a holiday; it is a profound expression of love and duty. Sisters apply a ceremonial tilak to pray for their brothers' longevity and success, while brothers return the favour with gifts.

The festival's origins can be traced back to the traditions of Yamaraj, the god of death, and his sister Yamuna. Yama is believed to have visited Yamuna on this day, where he was warmly greeted and blessed in return. This act of dedication represents the protective bond between siblings.

Another tale features Lord Krishna and his sister Subhadra, who greeted him with love and devotion following his victory over the demon Narakasura.
