Mohali, September 05: On Sunday night, around 9:15 PM a ride that was meant to be fun took a hazardous turn and dropped midway leaving behind several riders critically injured. In a carnival organised at the Dussehra Ground, Mohali phase 8, when people were taking a ride on the drop tower, it malfunctioned midway and suddenly came down crashing .The victims have suffered serious injuries to the head and neck, back, abdomen etc. The condition of some remains critical.

Eyewitnesses said that they were utterly shook seeing the swing suddenly fall down that led to commotion. As soon, as it fell, people around were screaming and ones stuck in ride were yelping for help. In a hurry, people put the injured in vehicles and took them to Phase 6 hospital and private hospital.


According to the information received, the swing fell from a height of about 50 feet. There were about 20 people on board, who are reported to be injured. Senior officers of Mohali police reached the spot and investigated. Apart from them, SDM Sarbjit Kaur and Naib Tehsildar Arjun Grewal also reached the spot. On the other hand, Mohali district administration has ordered an inquiry into the incident. At the administrative level, the officers will now check the approvals and security measures for organizing this fair, swings etc. Police interrogation is going on with the organizer of the fair, Sunny Singh. Mohali Deputy Commissioner Amit Talwar has also spoken of strict action regarding the accident. Notably, this Mohali carnival in Dussehra Ground was given the name of London Bridge. The fair was to last till September 11. In the initial investigation of the police, it is being called  a case of negligence. A video of the incident went viral on social media. "What we have come to know so far is that they had the permission to organise the show. However, no one would be spared if there is mistake committed on their part. Strict action will be taken according to the law. We have admitted all the injured persons to the civil hospital," said DSP Harsimran Singh Bal. Civil doctor Dr Subhash said that as many as five persons were admitted and "were not in serious condition". However, the locals who were present on the spot during the incident claimed that no safety measures were taken in the conduct of the fair. "Their private bouncers came nearly 20 minutes late. There was a lady who was their head. She said that nobody is dead. Who will take responsibility for the incident? How is this business running without the availability of any medical aid? The public is being stopped by the police. Nearly 50 persons would be injured. There were no safety measures taken. No big official reached the spot," the person present on the spot alleged. Another person present at the spot alleged that the management "suppressed the public". "Two children fainted after the incident. A lady (from the management team) said that there has not been any loss of life," said another person present at the spot. Further investigation into the matter is underway.
