50 feared dead in cloudburst-affected areas in Himachal; heavy rain for predicted till August 7
PTC News Desk: Around 50 people are feared dead in the areas affected by the cloud-burst incidents in Himachal Pradesh, said state Minister Vikramaditya Singh on Saturday. He added that official number can only be declared after an official confirmation and the completion of the search and rescue operation.
The minister said that the government's primary objective right now is to retrieve the bodies and restore connectivity in the state's flood-stricken areas.
The Indian Meteorological Department predicts heavy rain for the state until August 7. CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has announced Rs 50,000 for all families affected by the flash floods in the state.
On Saturday, the IMD issued a red alert for the Gujarat, West Madhya Pradesh, East Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Assam, and Meghalaya areas for August 3, 2024. In its daily forecast bulletin issued at 2:30 p.m., the IMD also projected isolated, extremely heavy rainfall for Madhya Maharashtra, Konkan and Goa, and Meghalaya on Saturday.
Heavy rainfall has been recorded in isolated areas across Kerala, Punjab, East Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Saurashtra and Kutch, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Konkan and Goa, Bihar, Odisha, North Interior Karnataka, West Bengal and Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, and Tripura in the last 24 hours.
