Arvind Kejriwal moves Delhi Court seeking insulin in jail, hearing today: AAP

PTC News Desk: Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi's Chief Minister, has taken legal action to secure insulin while in jail, with a hearing scheduled for today, as confirmed by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

In his petition to the Rouse Avenue Court, Kejriwal specifically requested access to insulin, crucial for managing his acute diabetes. Additionally, he seeks permission for a daily 15-minute video consultation with his doctor to address his fluctuating blood sugar levels. Furthermore, he requests that his wife be allowed to participate in these consultations, as reported by Live Law.

Kejriwal cited concerns over his health, stating that since his detention, his blood sugar levels have been dangerously erratic, posing significant health risks.

This development arises amid allegations from the AAP that Kejriwal has been denied access to insulin during his incarceration at Tihar jail. The matter caught the attention of Delhi's Lt Governor VK Saxena, who instructed the director general of prisons to furnish a detailed report within 24 hours. Saxena emphasised the gravity of the situation and assured that no compromises would be tolerated regarding Kejriwal's health, despite the jurisdictional authority lying with the AAP-led government.

At a press conference, Delhi cabinet minister Atishi raised concerns about Kejriwal's deteriorating health, alleging that his requests for insulin had been repeatedly denied by Tihar jail authorities. She claimed that his blood sugar levels had soared to dangerous levels, surpassing 300 mg/dL, due to the lack of medication. Atishi further asserted that the refusal to provide insulin amounted to a deliberate attempt to endanger Kejriwal's life.

The AAP's efforts to secure necessary medical treatment for Kejriwal underscore the broader concerns surrounding his health and well-being during his time in custody.
