Assam girl physically assaulted while returning from tuition, student union calls for bandh
PTC News Desk: A 14-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by three men in Assam's Nagaon district while she was returning home from her tuition class on Thursday evening. The victim was discovered unconscious by the roadside and was rescued by locals who alerted the police. She has since been admitted to Dhing Medical Unit in Nagaon for treatment.
The incident sparked massive protests, leading to a Bandh called by the Student Union in the area. Two suspects have been detained for questioning, and a search is ongoing for other involved individuals, according to a police officer.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma strongly condemned the incident, calling it a "crime against humanity." In a statement on social media platform X, the Chief Minister expressed his outrage and committed to ensuring justice for the victim. "The horrific incident at Dhing, involving a minor, is a crime against humanity and has struck our collective conscience. We will NOT SPARE anyone & BRING the perpetrators to JUSTICE," Sarma wrote.
He further mentioned that he has directed the Director General of Police (DGP) of Assam to visit the crime scene and ensure swift and decisive action against the culprits. "I've directed DGP Assam Police to visit the site and ensure swift action against such monsters," he added.
