PTC Web Desk: The Punjab Police have registered an FIR against Ranjit Singh Dadrian Wale under charges of murder and sexual assault, as revealed in an affidavit submitted to the Punjab and Haryana High Court by the Director General of Police (DGP) on Wednesday.

The DGP informed the HC that the FIR was lodged on December 7 in Patiala. The case pertains to incidents that occurred over 12 years ago but were allegedly overlooked at the time.

Action is also being initiated against Ashok Kumar, the then Station House Officer (SHO), who has since retired as Superintendent of Police (SP), and Sewa Singh Malhi, then DSP.  They have also been issued show-cause notices.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has scheduled the next hearing in the matter for Thursday to deliberate further on the case and the ongoing investigation.

What allegations did girl's family make in the petition?

The girl was allegedly murdered on April 22, 2012

She became pregnant after being repeatedly sexually assaulted

She was allegedly poisoned to death in Parmeshar Dwar dera

Under the pretense of a settlement, she was allegedly called to the dera and poisoned to death

The post-mortem report confirmed that the cause of death was poisoning

The police, under pressure from Dhadrianwale, did not register an FIR

What the DGP stated in his affidavit

The DGP mentioned in his affidavit that at the time of the incident, the deceased's mother did not raise any allegations against anyone and denied any wrongdoing

However, later, the deceased's sister filed four complaints with the police between June 16, 2012, and November 9, 2012, demanding action against Ranjit Singh Dhandria walle

During that period, Inspector Ashok Kumar, who was the SHO at Pasiana police station, and Sewa Singh Malhi, then DSP, did not take further action, leading to them being issued show-cause notices now

The DGP also stated that, as per office procedures, the records from January 1, 2007, to December 31, 2014, have been destroyed

The case resurfaced 10 years later when the petitioner, the deceased's brother, filed a complaint on December 12, 2023, stating that on September 8, 2023, he was threatened by some unknown persons while buying vegetables in the Samana market. They warned him to stay silent about the case or face the same fate as his sister

Another complaint was filed on October 16, 2023, leading to the petition reaching the Punjab and Haryana High Court

Statement from Ranjit Singh Dhandrian Walle

"The news has spread everywhere. Those who want to harm me are happy, while those who love me are upset. I am shocked that such accusations have been made against me. It may take time to clear my name, but I am confident that the truth will come out. This is just an accusation; it's not the truth," said Ranjit Singh Dhandrian Walle in a video message.

He said the investigation would reveal everything. "The girl's family went to court after 13 years. Prior to this, the case was closed as nothing substantial was found. It was a suicide, and there is no case against anyone. Now, since the family has gone to court, an FIR has been filed and a probe will be conducted," he added.

"I am fully cooperating with the investigation. Take me anywhere; my entire jatha will extend support in the probe. We are not at fault. There is nothing in the post-mortem report. The family only has doubts, and they are working to clear them," said Ranjit Singh Dhadrian Walle.

"I am sure that everything will be cleared, whether it takes a few days or months. I trust the court and the Punjab Police. Everything will become clear," he added.
