Syria crisis: MEA issues travel advisory, asks citizens to leave at the earliest

The ministry has also urged the citizen to stay in tough with Indian embassy and also issued emergency helpline numbers and email ID.

Syria crisis: MEA issues travel advisory, asks citizens to leave at the earliest

PTC News Desk: In the wake of mounting conflict, the ministry of external has issued advisory cautioning citizens against travelling to violence hit country meanwhile recommending the residing citizens for early departure. 


"In view of the situation prevailing in Syria, Indian nationals are advised to avoid all travel to Syria until further notification," it said in its advisory. 

"Those who can are advised to leave by earliest available commercial flights and others are requested to observe utmost precaution about their safety and restrict their movements to the minimum," the advisory further added. 

The ministry has also urged the citizen to stay in tough with Indian embassy and also issued emergency helpline numbers and email ID. "Indian currently in Syria are requested to remain in touch with Indian Embassy in Damascus at their emergency helpline number 963 993385973(also on Whatsapp) and email ID hoc.damascus@mea.gov.in for updates," ministry said in advisory.

Earlier, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said India is constantly observing the situation in Syria while keeping a note of safety of all Indian nationals. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal highlighted that there are around 90 Indian nationals in Syria, including 14 working in various UN organizations.

The dormant civil war in the region has once again gained momentum with Syrian Rebels' offensive actions resulting in escalation of conflict.
