Badlapur assault case: Police use tear gas as protesters start stone pelting at school
Badlapur assault case: During the uproar in Maharashtra's Badlapur over the sexual assault of two minor girls at a school, the outraged mob began throwing stones at the school where the crime took place.
Protesters were also enraged after opposition claimed that the girls' parents were made to wait 11 hours at a nearby police station for a First Information report. The three police officers involved were suspended by the government.
The alleged sexual assault of two fourth-grade girls in Badlapur, Maharashtra, has caused widespread anger.
As the angry mob demanded justice and began pelting stones at the school, the situation deteriorated, requiring police intervention. Authorities used tear gas and other measures to disperse the crowd and restore order.
Protesters wearing black clothing targeted the school amid the protest. As the situation settled down, the police were able to apprehend those responsible for the stone-throwing. The suspects have been taken into custody and are being held at the local police station.
The police are still investigating the assault case and working to maintain the peace in the town.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has ordered a high-level investigation into the incident, announcing that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been created to investigate the case and that those found guilty will face severe punishment.
"I have taken the Badlapur incident very seriously. An SIT has already been constituted in this case, and we aim to take action against the school where the incident occurred. We are in the process of fast-tracking this case, and no one will be spared if found guilty," CM Eknath Shinde said.
Notably, a big protest took place at Badlapur Railway Station on Tuesday in response to the alleged sexual assault of two minor girls at a Badlapur school. During the protest, protesters threw stones at police officers. Heavy security has been deployed to control the crowds protesting the incident.
The Central Railway's Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) stated that "Local trains were stopped at Badlapur railway station due to protests against the alleged sexual assault of two minor girls at a school in Badlapur."
