PTC News Desk: The Karnataka cabinet on Wednesday approved the proposal to rename the Bengaluru City University as Dr Manmohan Singh City University. The decision was taken at a meeting held at Nandi Hills.
The move follows an announcement made by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in his budget speech on March 7, 2025, where he stated that the university would be rechristened in honour of Singh’s contributions to India.
The institution, formerly known as Bengaluru Central University which is a state-run was initially established in 2017 and renamed in 2020. The University will once again be renamed in 2025 under Congress regime.
In addition the state government has also approved renaming Bengaluru Rural district as Bengaluru North and to change the name of Bagepalli taluk to Baghyanagara.
