Bengaluru stampede: Karnataka HC grants interim relief to KSCA officials in Chinnaswamy stadium incident

PTC Web Desk:  In a significant interim relief, the Karnataka High Court on Friday directed the state police to refrain from taking any coercive measures against key officials of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) regarding the tragic stampede incident outside Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy Stadium, which resulted in the loss of 11 lives.

The court order came in response to a petition filed by KSCA president Raghuram Bhat, secretary A Shankar, and treasurer E S Jayaram, who sought to quash the First Information Report (FIR) lodged against them in connection with the incident.

Justice SR Krishna Kumar presided over the matter and issued a stay on coercive action until further notice. The next hearing on the matter has been scheduled for June 16.

Representing the petitioners were senior advocates Ashok Haranahalli and Shyam Sundar, while the state government was represented by Advocate General Shashi Kiran Shetty.

The Bench also heard a separate plea submitted by Nikhil Sosale, the marketing head of Royal Challengers Bengaluru, in the same matter. That hearing has been adjourned to June 9.
